Growth - Since Inception:

 
  • After the first General Body meeting in 1957, members were enrolled, Founder's Day Souvenirs and Magazines were sent to subscribers and contact was maintained and developed with old students, by post and in person.

 

  • For about seven years the association moved slowly but steadily struggling to establish itself

 

  • 29th September 1964 – The Second General Body Meeting was called.  The Founder Secretary Dr.N.Krishnamurthy presented the ‘Constitution and Bye-laws’ and the general body approved this document.

 

  • The Inaugural Number ‘ The NIE Alumnus – Journal of the NIEAA’ was brought out during December 1964.

 

  • The first volume of the Journal contained a list of 23 alumni under the NIE ALUMNUS DIRECTORY column.

 

  • During June 1966, twenty seven (27) alumni had paid up their Life Membership Subscription.

 

  • Year 1982 saw the Silver Jubilee Celebrations NIEAA. Dr.N.Krishnamurthy was the President and Prof.K.Ramamurthy (Department of Mathematics) was the Secretary of the NIEAA managing committee.

NIEAA - Growth

  • On 26th June 1989 the interaction with the City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) for allotment of land/sites to the NIEAA House Building Co-operative Society, yielded results and 85 Sites in Mysore city were distributed to alumni.

 

  • The period 1989-1993 saw a slow but steady growth of the association.

 

  • On 27th August 1993, the managing committee of the NIEAA took a decision to start ‘Golden Jubilee Lecture Series’ by eminent alumni as a supportive venture to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of NIE.

 

  • The first lecture was inaugurated on 6th December 1993 while the concluding lecture was delivered on 24th May 1997.  A total of 51 lectures were arranged.

 

  • 16th March 1995, the NIEAA was registered under the Societies Act.

 

  • 3rd November 1999 the NIEAA foundation was formed to promote R&D programmes, provide scholarships to deserving students of NIE.  Income tax exemption under Section 80G for all donations to the NIEAA foundation was granted on 16th March 2000.

 

  • On 28th April 2002, the NIEAA arranged an Alumni meeting in Bangalore.  The event was given wide publicity and more than 450 alumni attended this meeting. The alumni attendance for this meeting has hither-to remained a record. Dr.N.Krishnamurthy, founder President, Er. E.A.S.Prasanna, Sri. Srinath Batni, Er. Venkat Rao, Prof.V.Chandrashekar, addressed the gathering.

NIEA GROWTH

  • As on July 2007, the NIEAA has registered 1,250 life members.
